What Do You Mean By Computer Memory?

Computer Memory is an essential element of a computer. Without its memory, a computer is of hardly any use. Memory plays an important role in saving and retrieving data. The performance of the computer system depends upon the size of the memory. Memory is of following types:

  1. Primary Memory / Volatile Memory.
  2. Secondary Memory / Non Volatile Memory.

Primary Memory / Volatile Memory is that memory of computer which is washed as soon as the power supply is cut off. RAM is Volatile Memory. Each time, the computer is started; it reads its RAM (Random Access Memory).

Secondary Memory / Non –Volatile Memory is of permanent nature. It is not washed when the power supply is cut off. ROM (Read Only Memory) is non-volatile memory.
